Spoof is a Companion that the player can bring along on a run. They are exclusive to the Shademancers Tribe.

Strategy

Although creating Bootleg copies of random enemies is inherently extremely inconsistent, Spoof's copies are still very strong in their own right, even with poor stat rolls. Compared to the Shade Wisp.png Shade Wisp, a Bootleg copy will always have at least 2 Health.png health, allowing it to survive after triggering and losing health from the Summoned ability. It also can have its Counter.png Counter reduced by a good amount. Try to ensure that there are as many worthwhile targets for Spoof as they come close to triggering, but even if they summon a subpar copy, it can still block attacks or be a sacrifice. Having extra blockers is especially important due to Spoof's extremely poor base health.

In addition to modifying the copied card's health, attack, and Counter, the copied card differs from the original in other ways:

  • It does not retain any debuffs from the original.
  • Its Counter begins at the maximum amount, not at the copied enemy's current Counter.
  • Any boosts or reductions to its effects (indicated by its effect numbers becoming green or red effect) are removed.
  • It gains the Summoned ability.

None of the enemy's stats are modified other than its health, attack, and Counter. Any buffs it had will be given to the copy.

The Lamb Charm.pngLamb Charm gives Spoof's copies a flat 2 points of health and Attack.png attack, making even the lowest Bootleg rolls decent. Van Jun.png Van Jun can similarly empower the summoned copies, although Van Jun's Counter is longer than Spoof's. When deploying both of them at once with Crowns, Van Jun will trigger one turn before Spoof can make a copy. This can be especially inconvenient since Spoof's health is low enough that the Sunburst Tootoo.png Sunburst Tootoo can only hit them once.

Spoof cannot copy any boss that takes up 2 zones, such as Infernoko.png Infernoko or Bamboozle.png Bamboozle. Since Clunkers have no health, Spoof will not copy them either.

Trivia

Spoof appears to have three Shade Wisp.png Shade Wisps around them, fitting due to their enemy-copying ability. Each Shade Wisp's color also corresponds to one of the stats modified by Bootleg: red for Health.png health, blue for Attack.png attack, and yellow for Counter.png Counter.
