The Naked Gnome is an enemy who can be recruited to join the player as a Companion.
Acquisition
The Naked Gnome has a chance to appear in the first wave of the first fight in each run (The Pengoons, The Snowbo Squad, The Snow Lumps, or The Bog Berries). Each of these fights has 1 possible first wave formation in which the Naked Gnome appears. If the battle is won with the Naked Gnome still alive, it will offer to join the player after the battle (though the player can also turn down its offer and shoo it away). The chances of this per fight are as follows:
- The Pengoons: 1/5 (appears with 2 Pengoons)
- The Snowbo Squad: 1/8 (appears with a Grouchy and a Wild Snoolf)
- The Snow Lumps: 1/5 (appears with a Baby Snowbo and Lump)
- The Bog Berries: 1/7 (appears a Beeberry and a Wild Snoolf)
Overall, this means that there is a 16.70% chance to encounter the Naked Gnome at the start of a new run. If the player is specifically trying to recruit the Naked Gnome (as there are multiple unlocks tied to it), this is easiest in the fight with The Bog Berries (since Beeberries can boost the Naked Gnome's health and the Berry Witch can heal it if it takes damage).
Strategy
The Naked Gnome has no natural defensive or offensive capabilities, with just a single point of health and attack. However, its rare Counter of just 2 makes it attack very quickly. With the right Charms or attack buffs, the Naked Gnome can become a powerful card. The Suncream, Sun Charm, and Sunglass Charm in particular are incredibly potent, allowing the Naked Gnome to attack every single turn.
Trivia
- The allied Naked Gnome is one of only two player cards that have no text box at all (the other being Foxee), as even cards with no effects like Woodhead and Junk have flavor text.
- Similarly, the enemy Naked Gnome is the only enemy card with flavor text.
- It also shares this flavor text with Junk and Gunk Fruit, although the latter's flavor text is not visible unless it has the Durian Charm.
- The enemy Naked Gnome is the only enemy with no stats besides health, not counting Shades summoned to the enemy field ( Sheepopper and Pom).
- The Naked Gnome was one of the first cards created in the game's development[1]
