The Frost Shades Fight

The Frost Shades is one of the possible second fights a player can run into. The fight is won when the Miniboss, The Ringer, is defeated.

Strategy

The Frost Shades' strategy is to gradually wear down the player's deck with stall tactics and chip damage. Every enemy has 2 or less Attack.png attack aside from The Ringer, but Frost.png Frost is an ever-present threat that hampers Companions. Frostinger attacks quickly and inflicts 1 Frost, which may not sound like much. However, since this fight is so early in the game, the player will likely not have upgraded their cards with any Charms. Even the occasional 1 Frost can let Frostinger or other enemies survive one more attack than they otherwise would have. Porkypine deals low damage but chips a whole row at once, posing an especially large threat to Clunkers. The Ice Lantern is a high-priority target that makes every enemy significantly more dangerous, particularly Porkpine and Mimik. Snowbirb deals weak damage but inflicts a whopping 4 Snow.png Snow, putting anything it hits out of the fight for a while. Finally, The Ringer has good attack to finish off any Companions that were chipped down, and attempting to attack it will slow down the pace of the fight significantly.

Since this fight revolves around Frost, Items are an important source of damage, as Companions may be less reliable than normal. In particular, the Ice Lantern, Mimik, and Snowbirb are very weak defensively, so Items can bring them down quickly before they become a nuisance. However, Snowbirb's Counter.png Counter is low enough that it may be able to get off an attack all the same. Try to avoid hitting The Ringer at all until all the other enemies are defeated or weakened significantly. It deals good damage but attacks fairly slowly, so save Clunkers and Shades to block its attacks. Once The Ringer is the last thing on the field, whaling on it is effective even with the Frost it continuously inflicts. Having leftover Clunkers and Shades is very useful, as The Ringer's Frost may land on them instead of on offensive Companions.
