Overburn
Overburn is a debuff applied by some Shademancer cards. When a card on the field has more Overburn than health, it immediately explodes, dealing damage equal to its Overburn to itself and all its allied cards in that row.
Information and Strategy
Overburn is an effect exclusive to the Shademancer Tribe. It is a unique debuff that has no immediate effect on the afflicted enemy, but instantly kills it and damages other enemies once the health threshold is passed. This makes Overburn very useful for cleaning up multiple weak enemies quickly, but causes it to fall off in effectiveness against enemies with a lot of health.
Overburn Interactions
Clunkers have no health at all, since they have Scrap instead. As a result, a Clunker will immediately explode when inflicted with any amount of Overburn. The Clunker itself will only lose 1 Scrap from the explosion, but the damage dealt to its allies in the row will be equal to the Overburn stacks, as normal.
Shell and Block give a card effective health (i.e. the ability to take more damage before dying), but they do not count towards raising the Overburn threshold. A hypothetical card with 1 health and 100 Shell would explode when inflicted with any amount of Overburn. However, Shell and Block still mitigate damage properly, potentially allowing a card to survive its own Overburn explosion (this is also the case for Clunkers with more than 1 Scrap). When a card survives its own explosion, its Overburn is removed immediately after it explodes.
Any boss that takes up 2 zones, such as Infernoko or Bamboozle, will damage both rows when it explodes, making Overburn uniquely potent in these fights.
Checking if a card should explode from its Overburn is a very high-priority action. It is checked between Frenzy attacks and before Reactions trigger. For instance, if a card with Smackback is attacked by another card, but the attack causes the card's health to become lower than its Overburn, it will explode before it can counterattack. If it survives its own explosion, it will still counterattack. Overburn's event priority is so high that if an attack inflicts both direct damage and Overburn, and the direct damage brings the card below its Overburn threshold, it will explode before being inflicted with more Overburn. For instance, hitting an enemy at 4 health and 1 Overburn with the Azul Battle Axe will cause it to explode and inflict 1 damage to the row, before the Azul Battle Axe can inflict it with more Overburn.
