Shell.png Shell is a buff applied by some Snowdweller cards. It functions as an extra layer of Health.png health.

Information and Strategy

Shell is an effect exclusive to the Snowdweller Tribe. If a card that has Shell takes damage, it will lose that much Shell instead of Health.png health. If the damage dealt is greater than the card's Shell, the excess is still dealt to its health.

If a card has both Block.png Block and Shell, the Block will be used up before the Shell.

Shell can also be applied to Clunkers to prevent them from losing Scrap.png Scrap. The usual rules of losing Scrap when damaged still apply; the Clunker will not lose Scrap when taking damage less than or equal to its Shell, but will lose 1 Scrap when taking damage greater than its Shell.

Shell Interactions

While health cannot be restored if a card is already at maximum health, Shell can always be applied to cards, no matter what. However, damage to Shell cannot be "restored" in the same way that damage to health can; the only way to restore Shell is to simply apply more Shell. This puts Shell and health-restoring effects at odds with each other, since health restoration is useless if Shell prevents the card from losing any health in the first place.

If a card's health ever becomes 0 for any reason, it is destroyed regardless of how much Shell it may have. This is especially important when using the Nutshell Cake.png Nutshell Cake, as it will kill any card that is at 2 or less health despite the large amount of Shell it grants. This also makes Leech.png Leech extremely valuable in the fight with The Shelled Husks, since many enemies in that battle have 2 max health and will immediately die when Leech takes health from them.

Shell will not raise the threshold at which a card with Overburn.png Overburn explodes; Overburn only cares about the card's health, regardless of any Shell or Block it has. However, if a card with Shell explodes from Overburn, its Shell will still block damage appropriately and can allow the card to survive its own explosion. If this happens, the card's Overburn is removed immediately after the explosion.
