Shades, sometimes called Summons, act similarly to companion cards with some differences.

One key difference is that Shades are summoned from another card in a player's deck; the conditions of how they are summoned may vary, but the Shades themselves are not in a deck. Multiple of the same Shade can be on the board at one time, though some summoning cards are consumed when used.

The second key difference is that Shades also lose 1 health when they activating. When a Shade reaches zero health, they will vanish from the board. This makes their presence more temporary, however, they can die freely without being injured in the next battle.

A note to make about Shades is that they will not carry any buffs or Charms that were applied to the card that summoned them. A Shade is a separate card from the card used to summon them.
