Counter is a stat most units have. Every turn, the Counter of all units goes down by one. (First the enemies, then the player.) When the counter reaches 0, the card triggers and the counter is reset to its max counter value.

Counter cannot decrease while the unit is frozen, even from abilities or cards such as Sun Rod.

Max Counter cannot be lower than 1 [confirm?].

The max counter stat can be modified in a few ways, such as with Sun Cream.

Trivia

Counter is not the only way for a unit to trigger. Units can also trigger from a Reaction. A unit can have a Counter, Reaction or both. The Reaction abilities are:

- Smackback: A smackback unit triggers when hit, targeting the unit that hit it. With Barrage, it attacks the whole row, while with Aimless, it hits randomly. (with Frenzy, it is completely able to hit until the whole row is down.) Can be granted via the Smackback Charm.

- Trigger when Sacrifice: Groff-only. Triggers when an ally is killed by team. (Haze, Monch, Items, etc.)

- Trigger when hit: Maw Jaw only. Different from Smackback because it targets like normal and triggers from items.

- Trigger when an ally in the row attacks: Mimik only.

- Trigger when an ally attacks: Mega Mimik only.

- Trigger when Junk is destroyed: Blundertank only. Commonly triggered by Recycle cards.

- Trigger against anything hit with (Status): Bombarder (Bom) and Kobonker (Snow) only. Can hit allies.

- Trigger when Spice hits 10: Moko Totem only.
